We said goodbye to the Wigwam and made our way to the end of the trail. We continued to take pics of Route 66 sites, quickly stopped at a UPS Store, and did a side trip to see two special houses, and then … we finally made it…
So, Route 66 has two ending points. The original which is on a street corner just like in Chicago. Across the street is a Mel’s Drive in with a Route 66 theme and they give certificates of completion, so I was ALL IN! They, however, were not. After waiting quite a while to even be acknowledged, we asked our waited about the certificate to which he a very unenthusiastic no idea.
Moving onto people who care! On the Santa Monica Pier sits The End of The Trail. Ian was manning the booth today and when we got there I got a hardy, “I’ve been expecting you!”…David! We chatted a while and made our way to The Venice Skatepark so Hunter could see the magic.
A pedicab back to the pier, and then dinner at Duke’s in Huntington Beach, with a special friend whom I can’t believe I got to see twice in less than a month, and now we are tucked in and ready to pass out.
