Turtle Back Zoo
Wanting a new place for Hunter to explore, I pulled up the map on my phone, typed “zoo” in the search bar, and started zooming and dragging until something popped up. After battling to get off of Long Island and into New Jersey, we finally arrived at the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, where…

PCH – Day Fifteen – San Diego Zoo
We have arrived at the Mother Ship! The San Diego Zoo! I have a ridiculous amount of pictures that I’ll post — of animals, some of Hunter, and some of Hunter with animals… As soon as we got there, we took a 30-minute double-decker bus tour of the zoo. Getting a feel for the zoo…

PCH – Day Fourteen – Dana Point, CA to San Diego
There’s so much about the last two days I didn’t get to write because we were just plain exhausted when we got back to the room at night, but having my friend Joe with me was absolutely the best experience I could ask for. Not only was it fun to spend time with my West…

PCH – Day Five – Garibaldi, OR to Crescent City, CA
I have been looking to this day for months!!!!! Just wait to see what we do!!! Up at the crack of dawn and by 8:30 we were at Depoe Bay for whale watching where we met the mayor, Cathy as she was tending the flowerbeds. Depoe Bay holds the world’s smallest harbor, but also, look…

PCH – Day Two – Seattle to Mount Rainier
After a very very long day, a thunderstorm ripped through Seattle like I’ve never heard in my entire life. There were long stretches in between thunderclaps, but they were incredibly loud. I truly didn’t understand how Hunter slept through all of it. But he did. I woke after eight hours and Hunter after 11 hours.…

15 Day Road Trip from Seattle to San Diego: Pacific Coast Highway Adventure
This trip began germinating when I began working at Dime. Thanks to a 1950s banking regulation, I am forced to take ten business days in a row of vacation. With ten days plus weekends, Hunter and I can do some serious exploring. My first thought was to drive The Lincoln Highway, but the more I…

Long Island Aquarium
Out on the east end of Long Island where our fish tails meet is the Long Island Aquarium, also known as the most expensive two hours of your life! On the small side, the aquarium does have a butterfly enclosure that is rather nice and a seal show.

Central Park Zoo
Nestled in the oasis that is Central Park, rest a zoo…and wonderfully small zoo that takes just an hour or so to get the full experience, but it is a really nice and soothing experience in the midst of the insanity that is NYC.

Heart of Africa Savanna Tour
Nothing Nothing Nothing prepared me for the experience that was this tour. Comfortably sitting in the back of a pickup truck, we drove through the gates of the Savannah exhibit where giraffes immediately descended upon us and we hand fed these gentle giants gallons of lettuce. And believe me, you think you know how big…

Night Hike
We met our personal docent at the front of the zoo and she took us to every single exhibit. With the zoo closed and temperatures lower than the day’s sun it was like having the zoo to ourselves while every animal was out to play!
