Every day just keeps getting better…
This morning we hopped on the highway to backtrack to Cuba to see the Murals of Cuba and the World’s Second Largest Rocking Chair…it really is BIG!
Then onward! Winding through Missouri, we first came upon the scale model of Stonehenge at The University of Missouri and Frog Rock all while taking pics of old dilapidated and remodeled Route 66 motels and service stations.
When I pulled over to take a picture of the famous Munger Moss Motel, a truck doubled back to check that we hadn’t fallen into the population control ditch (my term…not his ).
We finally arrived at Hunter’s outing, The Bass Pro Shop Flagship store in Springfield. I mean every word I am about to type sincerely….it was AMAZING! The store is ridiculous with a huge fireplace, water mill, waterfalls, and a lot of stuffed animals…oh, and a recreation of the first store ever! There is an aquarium at the store, and it is the best aquarium I have ever been to including Boston and Shedd (just a few days ago in Chicago). I don’t know who designed the concepts or the layout, but they deserve awards! I was enthralled, so you could imagine Hunter!
Then we went to Fantastic Caverns, the only drive through cavern experience. It was super cool and read my captions to learn about the special group of people who originally explored the cave in 1867.
Then we were faced with a choice…go past the road blockade to see Gary’s Gay Parita’s Roadside or double back and take the highway. Have you met me? I am sooooooo happy we continued past the blockades! Hunter and I met the kindest man, George, who runs the now defunct service station/museum/gift shop/place to rest! I could have sat for hours and chatted! And thanks to him and his amazing directions, we were able to get to our motel mostly in Route 66 and not waste an hour or go out of our way!
And check out our motel for the night. Ok, so it’s not much from the outside right now, but they are in the middle of massive renovations, and our room is just adorable!
