I started today without a plan…ok…not entirely true. I did have a five page itinerary for San Diego, but I couldn’t tell you if I did anything on it. I left the hotel to be in San Diego by 11:00, but there was a HUGE Pride parade in Balboa Park, so I didn’t arrive until 12:30.
I immediately purchased my hop on hop off tour ticket at the Seaport. I started out by having a delicious street taco lunch at La Puerta in the Gas Lamp Quarter where I was introduced to the wonder that is a Paloma!
Back on the trolley and off we went down past the Convention Center which is decked out for Comic Con (Yes, I tried to get tickets. No, I was not successful. We are NOT discussing it). We passed Petco Park, then down to Barrio Logan, and over The Coronado Bridge where I got to see the Hotel Del once last time. We continued onto Little Italy and then Old Town where I remained until I Lyfted back to my car.
I had zero reference for Old Town, but it was amazing. A street lined the typical souvenir shops mixed in with a bunch of Mexican restaurants and at the head of the street is the actual OLD TOWN. Long Islanders, think Old Bethpage with a Mexican flare. This was the the birthplace of California, and it was amazing!!
I took a tour of the Whaley House, the most haunted house in America (tour guide was from Ireland…if you know, you know). Super interesting and very very sad.
Dinner at Old Town Mexican Cafe where the line was around the corner, and I learned to put butter on fresh warm tortilla. My life will never be the same. Fajitas like I’ve never had! Just amazing.
A couple of margaritas later, I took a ghost tour. Again, super interesting and sad at the same time.
Fantastic day but not nearly enough time!
