In driving around and searching things out or just stumbling upon them, there are a ton of sites in LA that just are but don’t really fit in with anything I’ve done, but I have pictures.
Griffith Observatory – Rebel Without a Cause was filmed here, but it is a nightmare to park, so I never have. You need to park at the base of the park and take the bus or hike up to the observatory.
Capitol Records – Blow up in Independence Day, this famous building sits steps away from the Hollywood and Vine sign.
Hollywood and Vine – so still not sure if this is a famous site, but there is a restaurant at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. As per Wikipedia (so it must be right), “Hollywood and Vine, the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood, a district of Los Angeles, became known in the 1920s for its concentration of radio and movie-related businesses. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is centered on the intersection.”
The Troubador – within months of opening, Lenny Bruce was arrested on obscenity charges here and from there there isn’t a name who didn’t play The Troubadour — 9081 N Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood.
Jim Henson Company.. stumbled upon this and doubled back for a picture. Located at 1416 N La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028, Kermit stands atop an entry gate to welcome friends.
Los Angeles County Museum of Art, more popularly known as, LACMA (pronounced Lack-Ma)- located next to La Brea Tar Pits… meaning you can walk there, this outdoor art installation is known as Urban Lights. One day, I will go inside the museum.
The Paramount Gates – known as The Bronson Gate, this was the main entrance to the studio until 1978.
The Brown Derby – ok, so this is a major thing for me… The Brown Derby was an exclusive restaurant opening in the 1020s expanding to five locations around Los Angeles. Most locations were shaped like the derby hat, the restaurant invented both The Cobb Salad and The Shirley Temple mocktail. The only remaining Brown Derby is the replica at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios which I can attest is delicious! This picture is the last remnants of any of the restaurants and is in fact the almost original location at 3377 Wiltshire Boulevard, Los Angeles (original at 3427 was moved about a block).
The Fork in the Road – 200 Bellefontaine St, Pasadena… sure…. I mean… ok, sure. I would not go seek it out (like I did)… but sure … lol
