Nothing Nothing Nothing prepared me for the experience that was this tour. Comfortably sitting in the back of a pickup truck, we drove through the gates of the Savannah exhibit where giraffes immediately descended upon us and we hand fed these gentle giants gallons of lettuce. And believe me, you think you know how big a giraffe is but you don’t until one is over your shoulder and you are nuzzling the side of it’s head! AMAZING!
But here’s the funny story that goes with this experience… we arrived at the designated area about 15 minutes early because the Night Hike people were really early, so we waited. Security passed and chatted with us a for a moment, and we waited. At 5:05, I called the zoo, but of course, it was closed, so we waited. Then the young lady who had us the giraffe feed, was leaving work for the day, and I grabbed her! After several calls back and forth to the main office, it was discovered that two groups were scheduled for the tour. The other group cancelled, but because we were both from New York, they just assumed that we were together and cancelled our experience as well. We could not stop laughing!
