My niece and her hubby moved from The Upper East Side to Portland last year, and for a variety of reasons, our trip to visit them kept getting cancelled. This weekend, Hunter and I finally made it north, only to come home a little early for fear of the crazy Nor’easter that turned out to be a drizzle of rain…oh well. But we made the most of our time there!
Of course we got our obligatory Road Trip Selfie …
On Saturday, we walked into Portland and started with a completely delish Maine lunch at The Highroller Lobster Co!!!
On the way back to the apartment to get to car, we poked our heads into the Portland Historical Society grounds which happen to be housed at Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s boyhood home!
Then we went to explore two lighthouses… First, The Portland Head Light at Fort Williams Park.
Then we headed not far away to The Portland Breakwater Light which is also known as Bug Light
Cause Hunter has the best cousin ever, we totally had dessert before dinner and went to Zephyr Ice for Hawaiian Shaved Ice… LIFE CHANGING!!! It’s a scoop of ice cream (we got vanilla) covered in a mound of shaved ice (shaved by super sharp razor blades) the ice is then topped with two or three syrups… and everything is homemade. It was incredible!!!
Then I found a new door to add to my collection!!! What do you think? It’s not the prettiest door, but there’s just something about it.
We ended this amazing day with yummy enchiladas at Taco Escobarr.
Sunday started with a gorgeous sunrise from Liz & Nick’s balcony
And then we were off to Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens which exhibits five Thomas Dambo Troll Sculptures. Hunter has experienced the trolls before but I got to see my first this summer in Jackson…click here.
But then we had to get moving — a storm was rolling in back home, and with quick hugs and kisses we were already on the road, heading back toward New York.
