Up and at ‘em at 7:00am, leaving the hotel we made our way out of Illinois…only it wasn’t that easy. The map sort of turned in on itself and in order to see the World’s Largest Catsup bottle (and it pains me to spell it that way), we had to double back 20 minutes and then repeat practically everything we had already completed.
Once in Missouri, we quickly stopped in Springfield for a picture with the Gateway Arch. Hunter kept saying, “it’s huge”.
A lunch of Concrete at Ted Drewes’ and off to the Endagered Wolf Center where I realized that I made the reservation for tomorrow … insert crying mother here. They we’re super amazing and found someone to give Hunter the most incredible tour!
Then we shot over to the Route 66 State Park which we had to double back to and then take a detour.
Meramec Caverns was next. We got a great tour from a lovely young woman who volunteered her spectrum status. We chatted a bit.
We drove through the town of Bourbon and their water towers that just crack me up to arrive at Missouri Hicks Bar-B-Q for dinner. I had tried to get a reservation next door at the Wagon Wheel, but they were booked, so of course I timed the dinner so I could get an nighttime picture of their neon sign! And it was broken…
