I barely slept last night. I finally fell asleep after 3:00, Hunter woke for the day at 4:30 and was told to immediately go back to sleep, and then I woke at 7:30.
Since everything closed early last night we finished up in Seligman by visiting Angel Delgadillo’s barbershop. Just the coolest story there is. I am attaching it in a picture so you can make it bigger to read it!
We the hit the Hackberry General Store which was part of the inspiration for Lizzie’s Curios in Cars; then Kingman for a passport stamp and another Route 66 Drive Thru!
Then we were off to Oatman where donkeys roam free, but not before having to conquer the Sitgreaves Pass/Arizona Sidewinder…up and over a mountain with 191 turns over eight miles without guards rails with donkeys randomly appearing roadside. And let’s not forget my fear of heights. Oh, and remember Aaron from Kansas? This is where he told me to look for the goldfish.
Oh, and no David today, but I did run into the mother/daughter road trippers whom I saw at The Grand Canyon and The Road Kill Café. Her name is Stephane (pronounced like mine but no i before the e).
So here’s the deal…Hunter (begrudgingly) videoed some of the drive but it didn’t stop me from singing so you have three choices: 1-skip the videos, 2-watch muted and save yourself, or 3- watch with full volume and understand how truly tone deaf I am (mocking later is allowed but remember, I am sharing FOR YOU!…and yes, I sing with a southern accent).
Once we survived the drive, we entered Oatman where Hunter hugged several donkeys, we ate lunch at the historic hotel, and watched A bank robbery.
After Oatman, we did an off-route side trip to The London Bridge. What!?!?! You didn’t know that The London Bridge lived in Arizona? Welp, it does….in Lake Havesu to be exact.
And then finally we arrived in California! Gonna be honest, my heart kept at the sign welcoming me (home).
Standard Best Western tonight. Nothing exciting but tomorrow night is a different story…stay tuned.
