I love a tour… I love learning about places, and when presented with the Ice House Tour, I knew I wanted in! .
The walking tour began in what was once the Hotel Del’s Ice House and as the name denotes is now a museum. A small group and I then spent the morning meandering the property, learning the history, seeing famous sights, and searching for the spirits that inhabit the grounds. Amazing way to spend a morning!
There were lots of stories of Marilyn Monroe who filmed Some Like It Hot at Hotel Del. Some Like it Hot director, Billy Wilder, cut the limbs of the Dragon Tree when he deemed them in his way. The tree proceeded to pour blood red sap, ruining equipment and delaying filming for ten days.
There were even more stories about Hotel Del’s most famous guest, Kate Morgan. The young woman checked in on November 24, 1892 under a different name and was found dead five days later. Her death remains a mystery and it is said that she regularly walks Hotel Del’s grounds.
