Big Sur is the craziest coolest drive ever! I strongly suggest going North to South, with mountains on your left and ocean on your right, through pine forests with throw back gas stations and lodges. There is nothing not to love! What surprised me the most about the drive was that I really had to pay attention to the left side of the road as much as the right. The views of the ocean were amazing but the mountains were beautiful as well!
In the words of my seventh grade teacher, Mr. Zaretsky, on the way home from a Frost Valley field trip where on one side of the road was a mountain and the other side was a raging river, “Stephanie, God forbid anything should happen, don’t scream!”
Just make sure to constantly check for road conditions as rock slides are not unheard of.
Also, download any music and maps you may want or need because there is often no connectivity.
