The entire museum take place on and in an actual retired aircraft carrier, Intrepid with a retired nuclear submarine
Intrepid
“Commissioned in 1943, Aircraft Carrier Intrepid survived five Kamikaze attacks and a torpedo strike during WWII. The aircraft carrier later served in the Cold War, Vietnam War and as a NASA recovery vessel.” On the flight deck, we found dozens of decommissioned aircrafts including a Concorde
Inside the Intrepid exhibits and displays of the Intrepid itself as well as an interactive Exploreum where you can roam and discover, and a space shuttle experience…like a SPACE SHUTTLE!!!!
We also found a Lego display, and with Hunter’s affinity for Legos, I was of course mesmerized… he kept walking.
Submarine Growler
“As the only American nuclear missile submarine open to the public, Growler offers a firsthand look at life aboard a submarine and the once “top-secret” missile command center with available access as it was used during operations.”
