I had zero expectations for this experience.  Hunter and I took the LIRR, changing at Jamaica, to Atlantic Terminal and walked 20 minutes to The New York Transit Museum and met up with Liz and Nick. Located in a decommissioned subway station, this was instantly cooler than any other museum I’ve ever been to!Â
Literally descending two flights of stairs through a street side subway entrance (ADA entrance available), the old station has tons of displays showing different aspects of NYC travel from the lunch pails and shovels the workers used when digging out the subway tunnels to the progression of tokens and turnstiles.
With so much to see, I particularly loved the old signage.
Subway Simulator – Drive your own subway car!
The real magic is down one more flight of stairs where we arrived on the subway platform, there sits a fleet of vintage rail cars sitting on the tracks showing the evolution and amazing differences in past cars, seats, strap hangers, and even advertisements.
Absolutely a super cool museum, so if you’re in Brooklyn, spend a couple of hours.
